View from El Nave Farm

I joined my friend in scouting a wedding venue near Hadera. But what should have been a light-hearted trip took a solemn and unexpected turn.

The owner of the venue- a farm- had to leave abruptly to search for the missing shepherd boy, Benyamin Achimeir. The heaviness of the situation, then unresolved, lingered over our visit.

Later that day (when?) Benyamin was found, murdered. He was 14 years old. I was compelled to paint a tribute to Benyamin, capturing a view from that farm. The kind of view that would have been so familiar to him.

Living in Israel means never being too far away from tragedy, through the people we know or the places we visit. We are interconnected- am echad, lev echad (put this in Hebrew), or one nation, one heart. All our sorrows, pain, tragedy, triumph and hope are shared. That is where the beauty and strength of Israel lies.
