Tel Aviv skyline from Jaffa

60cm x 75cm, oil on linen

Creating a classical landscape that depicts a modern city skyline is a challenge - most classical paintings were made before the skyscraper was invented. How to keep the classical feeling with the modern twist. It was during one of my many walks to Jaffa that I found this view looking back at the Tel Aviv skyline. I was struck by the juxtaposition of the ancient with the modern and the path leading between the two. The last piece of the puzzle was finding a sense of life in the buildings and stones - and what could be more iconic than some street cats.
