This painting comes from a visit to an army base on the Syrian border. When we arrived, the soldiers were playing soccer—just kids, really. But beneath the laughter was a heavy stillness.I grew up far from anything like this. Painting this piece was my way of processing that contrast—of youth and war, of play and waiting. It’s a glimpse into the lives of those holding the line while trying to hold onto their humanity.
